We offer the largest tourist observation center in South America.
This astronomical tour is offered every night, except for 5 nights a month when there is a full moon.
The tour allows people, without necessarily having previous knowledge, to understand how to look at the sky, as well as being able to observe our universe through powerful telescopes, from one of the best places on Earth to see the sky, the desert of Atacama.
The tours are carried out in 3 different languages: Spanish, English and French.
The passengers are transferred from the center of the town to the observatory located approximately 7 kms.
During the first part of this tour, we show the sky that we can see with the naked eye. So then we can understand what we are seeing, what is a constellation, how to learn from them, how to understand a map of the sky and recognize the main stars.
For this, a green laser pointer is used, which allows to indicate precisely which star is referred to in this stage of the tour.
The center of telescopes is the largest of any public observatory in South America (between 20 and 72 cm in diameter), aligned and maintained correctly in order to give the best possible images.
The tours culminate sharing a hot drink before returning to San Pedro.
The duration of the tours is two and a half hours.
We are in the desert and the nights are cold. It is very important to come well wrapped so as to enjoy the tour comfortably.
To have a quality tour, the number of passengers is usually limited to 24 people.
In case there is cloudiness on the day of the tour, the tour will be suspended and a 100% refund will be made to the passengers.
The tour price is 25,000 pesos per person and includes transportation to and from San Pedro, the tour and a hot drink.
The tour starts at the intersection of Domingo Atienza and Calle Steet, and when the passengers finish they are approached to their hotel.
